As university students, our academic calendar is rarely just about lectures and deadlines. Throughout each semester, events are organised by the faculty or students themselves. These events play a crucial role in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.

Each event carries its own objective: some are designed to build professional skills, while others aim to bring the cohort together in a shared theme. But a common objective across these is audience engagement, be it through panel discussions, Q&A sessions, or fun games.

Every time we plan our semester's event, we deal with the same question: "How do we get a room full of MBA students to stay engaged, learn, while also having fun?" The answer was right there: "To host an online live quiz." That is when we turned to Kung Fu Quiz.

We, the students of IMBA at Herald College Kathmandu, recently organised a marketing-themed event titled "When Global Strategy Meets Local Reality," centered around the discussion on international marketing strategies in the local context. We wanted a fun activity that aligned with our academic module as well as the event theme.

We hosted a Live Quiz from Kung Fu Quiz with questions around marketing concepts, brand trivia, iconic advertising campaigns, and marketing strategies aligned with what was taught in class. Since the quiz platform supports image-based questions, we could easily customise our questions with the related brand logos or visuals.

We wanted to ensure that participants were not just playing but actively revisiting and reinforcing their subject knowledge while doing so. With a simple QR present on the screen, more than 60 students joined in the quiz.

The result? The live quiz brought an enthusiastic and fully engaged room with students trying to answer the questions as quickly as possible. With leaderboards updating after every round, it really brought the competitive spirit.

Why This Works for Every Age and Setting

What makes online quizzes particularly valuable for university students is how it lowers the barriers to participation. In any new group setting, there's an unspoken nervousness, hesitation to speak up, or the fear of being wrong in front of strangers. Live quizzes sidestep all of that. When everyone is answering simultaneously, the pressure is shared equally across the room, and it no longer feels like being tested. Even those who might not raise their hands during an open discussion will eagerly tap an answer on the screen. Thanks to Kung Fu Quiz, the participation we saw during the event was amazing.
